10.Buster was driving behind an armored truck when suddenly the rear door flew open and a bag containing 2 million dollars landed on the hood of his car. Buster grabbed the bag and drove off, certain that no one had seen him, since it was late at night on a lonely road. He brags to you that he has received a tax-free bonus from heaven. Is Buster correct in assuming this money is not taxable? (Be sure to give the concepts that help you decide.)

11.Gretchen, 22, is a single individual with no dependents. She recently graduated from college and has received job offers from two firms. Gretchen likes both companies equally well and has decided to choose between them based on which company offers more. Details of each job offer are below.

Company A – annual salary of $50,000; employer provided health and accident insurance (employer cost of $2,400); group term life insurance coverage at twice the annual salary; employer provided day-care facility (employer cost per dependent is $150 per month); and covered parking (value is $4,000 per year).

Company B – annual salary of $45,000, a cafeteria plan under which Gretchen may choose benefits of up to 10% of her annual salary or take a cash equivalent. In addition, the company has a flexible benefits plan in which employees may participate by setting aside up to 10% of annual salary per year for payment of unreimbursed medical expense.

Analyze the tax effects of the two job offers and then explain how each will affect Gretchen. Calculate the total after tax income (taxable and excluded) Gretchen can expect from each. Assume she has no other income and will use the standard deduction.

Topic: We all had the unfortunate experience of seeing how computers can, at times, make life’s journey abit more difficult. This is especially true in knowledge centric workplaces. Describe an example of a very poorly implemented database that you’ve encountered (or read about) that illustrates the potential for really messing things up. Include, in your description, an analysis of what might have caused the problems and potential solutions to them. Be sure to provide supporting evidence, with citations from the literature.

A light beam containing red and violet wavelengths is incident on a slab of quartz at an angle of incidence of 50.00. The index of refraction of quartz is 1.455 at 660 nm (red light), and its index of refraction is 1.468 at 410 nm (violet light). Find the dispersion of the slab, which is defined at the difference in the angles of refraction for the two wavelengths.

Considering the molecule N-[(2-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)methyl]-N-(4-methylphenyl)-acetamide. How could the N-atom lone pair in the imine affect H-NMR chemical shifts of H-atoms that are ortho and meta to the N-atom (relative to benzene)? Would it have something to do with natural bond orbitals or the type of directing group it would be?

The Discussion Board (DB) is part of the core of online learning. Classroom discussion in an online environment requires the active participation of students and the instructor to create robust interaction and dialogue. Every student is expected to create an original response to the open-ended DB question as well as engage in dialogue by responding to posts created by others throughout the week. At the end of each unit, DB participation will be assessed based on both level of engagement and the quality of the contribution to the discussion. At a minimum, each student will be expected to post an original and thoughtful response to the DB question and contribute to the weekly dialogue by responding to at least two other posts from students. The first contribution must be posted before midnight (Central Time) on Friday of each week. Two additional responses are required after Friday of each week. Students are highly encouraged to engage on the Discussion Board early and often, as that is the primary way the university tracks class attendance and participation. The purpose of the Discussion Board is to allow students to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content and the DB question. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB will be accepted after the end of each unit. Describe the various roles that probation/parole officers can take on including probation/parole officer roles as agency models, agents of rehabilitation, broker/advocate agents, and probation/parole officers as law enforcement agents. •What type of officer do you feel would have the greatest opportunity to make a positive impact on an offender? Explain why. •If you were to go into probation/parole, which role would you want to fill? Suggestions for Responding to Peer Posts •Review a peer’s response that selected a different type of officer who has the greatest opportunity to make a positive impact on offenders than the one that you selected. Do you think their answer was convincing? •If so, what additional statements or information can you find to support their view points? •If not, what additional points can you make to support the influence by the type of officer that you selected? The following grading criteria will be used for this assignment. •30%: Describe the various roles that probation/parole officers can take on including probation/parole officer roles as agency models, agents of rehabilitation, broker/advocate agents, and probation/parole officers as law enforcement agents. •30%: What type of officer do you feel would have the greatest opportunity to make a positive impact on an offender? Explain why. •20%: If you were to go into probation/parole, which role would you want to fill? •20%: Responses to Peer Posts In your own words, please post a response to the Discussion Board and comment on at least two other postings. You will be graded on the quality of your postings. Make sure your first post is 4-6 paragraphs. For assistance with your assignment, please use your text, Web resources, and all course materials.

Two plane mirrors are facing each other. They are parallel, d = 4 cm apart, and l = 24 cm in length, as the drawing indicates. A laser beam is directed at the top mirror from the left edge of the bottom mirror. What is the smallest angle of incidence with respect to the top mirror, such that the laser beam

A 45 kg figure skater is spinning on the toes of her skates at 1.0 rev/s. Her arms are outstretched as far as they will go. In this orientation, the skater can be modeled as a cylindrical torso (40 kg, 20 cm average diameter, 160 cm tall) plus two rod-like arms (2.5 kg each, 66 cm long) attached to the outside of the torso. The skater then raises her arms straight above her head, where she appears to be a 45 kg, 20-cm-diameter, 200-cm-tall cylinder.

A cosmic-ray proton in interstellar space has an energy of 10.0 MeV and executes a circular orbit having a radius equal to that of Mercury’s orbit around the Sun (5.80 × 10^10 m). What is the magnetic field in that region of space?
