Thesis Statement for the Integrative Literature Review

In this assignment, you will create the thesis statement for your Final Assignment. The thesis is the statement of your perspectives on the literature. It should also include the rationale and relevant empirical and theoretical background supporting your perspectives. The primary objective of this assignment is to outline specific areas of inquiry you intend to answer in the course of the Integrative Literature Review. Although they may change during the course of the review, articulating these areas of inquiry early will help provide focus and direction for your research.

Begin by introducing the areas of inquiry to be included in your Integrative Literature Review. Explain your perspective on the literature and include how you arrived at this viewpoint, how the literature you have chosen to include supports this viewpoint, and why this perspective is relevant to the field of psychology.

Based on your introduction, briefly discuss the literature you have chosen by integrating concepts developed from your four different content domains. Be sure to utilize at least one peer-reviewed source per domain. Construct clear and concise arguments using evidence-based psychological concepts and theories to support your perspectives regarding the literature.

To conclude your assignment, identify any overarching implications shown in the studies and describe how these influenced your perspectives on the literature.

 Developing a Training Program

The proper role for a psychologist in interrogations is to serve as a consultant for psychological science. However, you will not serve as an interrogator while acting as a psychologist. Therefore, your job is to provide scientific information to make the process of interrogation more valid and reliable.

In this assignment, you will provide scientific information about two areas of interrogation.

Part 1

The precinct captain wants to develop a training program for interrogators in detecting deception. To develop the training program, the captain asks you to identify the three most common signs or cues of deception in verbal responses and behavioral posturing and to report the reliability and validity of each cue.

The captain wants the training program to be ready in five days.

Task:

In a minimum of 150 words, respond to the following:

  • Which behavioral cues of deception will you report as having the greatest validity, and what evidence will you present to support your claim?

Part 2

Pick one of these three special populations:

  • Juveniles
  • Adults with low intelligence
  • Individuals from a specific, nondominant culture

Review each of the three indicators of deception, identified in Part 1, with respect to one of these populations.

Task:

In a minimum of 200 words, respond to the following:

  • Do you think the indicators will be less valid or have similar validity? Explain your answer with reasons.

Submission Details:

  • By Saturday, September 2, 2017, post your responses to this Discussion Area.
  • Through Wednesday, September 6, 2017, respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts. While responding, specifically comment on whether and why you agree or disagree with the claims on the behavioral cues of deception identified by your classmates. Be honest, clear, and concise. Always use constructive language, even in criticism, to work toward the goal of positive progress.

Assignment 4

This course has provided you with a foundational knowledge of forensic psychological assessment. Successful integration of your skills is a significant aspect of this course. Throughout this course, you have learned about the variety of forensic psychological assessments.

In this assignment, apply what you have learned in this course to analyze a report of a recently paroled offender.

Scenario:

You are working as a forensic mental health professional in a parole outpatient clinic, which has received a forensic psychological and risk assessment report on a paroled offender. You have been asked evaluate the report and present it to the Board of Parole.

Click here to download the forensic psychology and risk assessment report.

Tasks:

Evaluate the forensic psychology and risk assessment report and create an 8- to 10-page essay in a Microsoft Word document addressing the following:

  • Identify and describe the role and purpose of the report. Comment on whether the evaluation was or was not necessary. State the reasons for your opinion.
  • Apply considerations of any information or sections that you found missing in the report as well as information that you found to be not relevant, i.e., elements that should have been omitted. In other words, what could have been added to or excluded from the report?
  • Discuss the ways in which cultural sensitivity and aspects of diversity were addressed in the report, including any ways in which the report could be made more culturally sensitive and include greater considerations of elements of diversity.
  • Identify and describe at least two additional psychological assessments or measures that you would have administered to obtain additional relevant information for the report. Feel free to list more than two as appropriate. Be sure to also consider cultural implications of the tests which you select.
  • Explain how you would use the recommendations in the report to assist in the development of a treatment plan.
  • Discuss in what capacity the report may be used in alternative venues. For example, can this report be utilized by other professionals in the future? If so, in what capacity?
  • Discuss the overall quality and readability of this report, including a scholarly critique of the writing.

As you evaluate the report be sure to avoid using the word “I” in formal writing. Remember, the reader of your assignment will know it is your voice since you are the author of your paper. Also, consider the difference between the following two statements, “I think the report needed to have included . . .” and “The report needed to have included . . .” The first statement has some redundancy by the writer’s use of the word “I,” whereas the second statement displays greater confidence.

Your essay should rely upon at least seven scholarly resources from the professional literature that are cited in APA format. The literature may include online library resources; relevant textbooks; peer-reviewed journal articles; and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu or .gov).

The assignment will be graded according to the following rubric:

Final Project: The Self-Modification Project. One of the primary goals of this course is to better understand the impact that daily lifestyle and habits may have upon overall health and wellness. Consistent with this goal, each student will begin by completing a personal exploration or assessment of the challenges to personal wellness (smoking, obesity, excessive alcohol use, stress modification, etc).
Based upon this initial exploration the student will have to develop a plan to modify the challenged found in this exercise and discuss how they have changed these lifestyle-challenges. The format for this paper will follow three general headings (Initial Challenges to Health and Wellness, Plan of Intervention In the initial section, relevant research regarding the unhealthy behavior should be offered and supported with relevant research. In the second section, the student will develop a detailed plan to change the researched behavior. In the last section, the student will discuss the results of their plan to change the unhealthy behavior. Requirements for the paper include a minimum of 5 pages (APA Format, 6th Edition).

Part 1: This is a chance for you to make the connection between your behavior and actual neuron growth in your brain. The idea is that the activities you choose to be involved with today, create the person you will be in the future.  And so for this topic, describe the person you want to become in five years time. What new things will you learn that will stimulate an advanced and diverse neural network in yourself? Be sure to discuss the challenges you might encounter along the way and what you will need to do to overcome them. Here are some examples of what to write about:a. Your career choice, and what skills and education it requires.b. How you will be a member of your community, as an active participant or leader.c. What choice of home culture you will pick for your own family.d. Which healthful living activities such as diet, exercise, or meditation will you choose? e, What new hobby would you pursue? Is it individual or team-related? f. Or any other example of how you will have developed over those the next five years.

Part 2: This topic involves a kind of fast-forwarding in the development of the mind. There is research going on today that aims to create computer chips for placement in the human mind to help with various functions. The chips are intended to inform us or help us make decisions. For example, a chip could be implanted to identify diseases in the body, calculate our blood pressure, tell us when our diet isn’t providing sufficient vitamins, or even tell us when we need sleep. Other possibilities are numerous. The questions for this Discussion topic are, which of these functions, if any, would you like a brain-chip for:  larger memory storage while you are in school…  a chip that helps you with creativity…  a chip that helps you control your emotions… a chip to help you understand what is best for you, and how to choose that path.  Then discuss why you are willing to give up part of your human nature in favor of a new, possibly improved digital nature.  Can you co-exist with a mini-computer in your brain?

Identifying Problems

On the surface, many human services cases might appear to be direct. You might look at a case and quickly identify the problem as a lack of services, missing services, or insufficient resources. With complex cases, however, a deeper look is necessary. What may appear to be a basic problem with a simple solution might actually be much more for clients dealing with complex issues. For this Discussion, review the media program “The Situation: Chapter 1.” As you reflect on the problems that exist for the client, consider which ones you would prioritize as most critical.

It’s time to get creative! You have noticed that the Vargas family struggles with emotional expression, particularly with congruent emotional expression (i.e., words, actions, and body language being congruent). Using the Experiential Interventions Template, create three unique experiential interventions that you would use with the family and describe how they would be helpful to the family. It may be helpful to refer to the library articles for ideas and inspiration, but do not copy existing interventions. Be sure to fully address each section in the template for each of the three interventions in your paper

Ongoing assignment, last portion. For Chrisbenjamin

The final project is the creation of a case application paper that includes an in-depth analysis of a selected case study. Students will choose an individual such as a known historical figure, a celebrity, a fictional character, or an individual known personally to the student (ALL identifying information must be eliminated from the paper in the case of the last option). The selected individual must be a child or adolescent with a cognitive disorder or a learning disability, and enough information must be available to include the following in the analysis:

·A description of the chosen disorder and a comparison between normal brain function and the brain function of a person with the disorder

·An evaluation of the relationship between psychological and physiological aspects of the disorder and the resulting negative effects on daily functioning

·An assessment of the impact of recent technological advancements on the diagnosis and treatment of the disorder

·Recommendations for appropriate treatment options and coping mechanisms for the selected case and other people with the disorder

·Preventative measures that may be employed for others who may be at risk for the disorder

The case application paper should be a 10–12-page Word document. The final product represents an authentic demonstration of competencies highlighted by the course outcomes because the paper requires students to 1) analyze brain areas associated with a disorder and corresponding behavioral deficits, 2) review existing research and apply the literature to a topic in cognitive neuropsychology, and 3) assess diagnostic techniques, summarize effective treatments, and analyze possible outcomes of those treatments.
