A married couple ages 40-45 is in your schedule for re-care, one after the other. Both have been seen for re-care every six months for the past 15 years.

Both patients are ASA I with recent medical evaluations and lab work that confirms their ASA I status.

Both patients had full mouth radiographs three years ago. Both are low risk for caries.

The husbands radiographs confirm generally normal interdental bone heights with 1-2 mm of interdental loss on 4 sites.. The husband clinically presents with moderate amounts of plaque and a low grade chronic gingivitis characterized by fibrotic gingiva and eight sites that bled upon probing. Four pockets sites had depths of 4mm. No sites were greater than 4 mm.

The wife’s radiographs demonstrate 3-4mm of interdental bone loss on 40% of the sites and 1-2mm of loss on the other sites. She presents with minimal plaque and no apparent gingivits but 8 sites bled on probing and 10 sites had pocket depths greater than 5 mm.
