In comparison to the natural sciences and advancements in technology, social scientists were not able to accomplish same success; improvement in understanding the society has been gradual.

Apart from various application and their corresponding utilizations, recording and analysis of data could have in corporations and enterprise (Hendler, 2013).
In the current scenario, one could easily measure and quantify the popularity of a politician by merely considering the number of their followers on social media. This is a rather an easy task in comparison to the classical methods of social science which is purely based on questionnaires.
If years ago the invention of telescopes provided us with an ability to understand how galaxies actually behave, and the microscope made us understand to find the cure of such huge amount of diseases, so in this century we will learn and understand much more about the social systems only because of the big data.
