role-of-major-business-investment-or-government-infrastructure-project-in-the-economy-during-the-1970-s

The 1970’s was a decade of large scale development projects in Atlantic Canada. The federal government spent large sums of money on big infrastructure projects and on promoting economic development in our region. In addition, the provincial governments, with the possible exception of Prince Edward Island, all went in search of large new businesses or major expansions of existing businesses. Some of these projects were successful while others did not get much beyond the planning stage.

For this assignment, each student will be assigned a specific period of time from the 1970’s to research. My part is Jan-April 1975. Your task is to find new large scale economic activity that occurred ( either planned or developed) in Atlantic Canada. The starting point should be a search of the Chronicle Herald newspapers for the assigned time period. Students will then select one of the projects for further review and study.

A written report of about 750 words should then be prepared. This report should include the following:

A abridged summary of the project you selected for review

The impact that this project has had on the economy and its status today

A list of other significant projects found during your initial research
