Purpose

For students to observe a video where policy experts discuss and debate contemporary ‘Medicare for All’ proposals, summarize panelists’ arguments, and use that information to take clear positions on the issue.

Instructions

Write a 2-3 page paper (12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced, 1” margins) that includes the following:

An introduction (no more than ½ a page) briefly summarizing the main ideas and arguments presented during the April 25th, 2019 panel discussion on Medicare for All proposals being introduced by members of Congress and discussed by some 2020 Democratic presidential candidates (you can access the video at https://www.c-span.org/video/?460130-1/medicare-proposal).

A body (about 1 1/2 to 2 pages) where you clearly and concisely summarize each panelist’s primary arguments and perspectives on the proposals’ connection to existing Medicare policies, differences between proposals, additional costs and revenue (fiscal policy!), affect on private healthcare market, etc. Be sure to discuss and cite the following panelists:

A conclusion (about 1 page) where you discuss the following:

what you learned about Medicare for All proposals after watching the video

which panelist you believe provided the best explanation of these proposals

whether you agree or disagree with one or all of the Medicare for All proposals and why

is it a politically feasible policy?

how do we pay for it?
